[Volunteer] Program Manager – Open Source Bioinformatics Non-Profit

About Us: Join our innovative non-profit startup dedicated to advancing scientific research in the fields of bioinformatics and applied genetics/genomics. We are seeking a dynamic Program Manager to lead our initiatives, foster collaboration, and drive impact through open-source projects.

Job Description: As the Program Manager, you will be at the forefront of our mission, overseeing and coordinating projects that promote open-source bioinformatics and genetics/genomics research. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage a diverse range of research and development projects, from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with our non-profit’s objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster collaboration between multidisciplinary teams comprising bioinformaticians, geneticists, data scientists, and software developers, promoting knowledge exchange and synergy.
  • Resource Management: Efficiently allocate and manage resources, budgets, and timelines for each project, ensuring milestones are met and resources are utilized optimally.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with partners, donors, and research institutions, seeking funding opportunities and strategic alliances to support our initiatives.
  • Research Oversight: Ensure that research projects adhere to ethical guidelines and contribute to scientific advancement while maintaining a commitment to open-source principles.
  • Team Development: Mentor and develop team members, nurturing their growth and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development: To prepare and present Programme Impact Brief and develop collaterals for our projects.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in bioinformatics, genomics, genetics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in program management within a non-profit or research environment, preferably in the life sciences.
  • Strong background in bioinformatics and applied genetics/genomics.
  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, secure funding, and advocate for open-source initiatives.
  • Commitment to ethical research practices, open science, and advancing scientific knowledge.
  • MSP Practitioner or equivalent
